Residency
Please ensure you reside within Calgary Northwest Basketball (CNWB) boundaries. Use this link Zone Finder to determine what area you should be registering in, CNWB is Zone 1 on the map. A NW residence does not guarantee you are in the CNWB zone, as well recent changes to boundaries may mean that players who have previously played with CNWB now belong to a different zone so please verify through the zone finder link prior to registering. Any registrations outside our boundaries will be withdrawn and a $50 administration fee charged.
Program Capacities
Register early to ensure a spot in our programs. It is Calgary NorthWest Basketballs’ goal to provide an opportunity for all of our members to participate, however we are limited by our gym availability. Once specific age categories are full, please sign up on the waitlist as CNWB and CMBA will make every effort to include as many players as possible. Please note that our LTP & Tyke programs fill quickly so please register early to ensure a spot.
Safety
In lieu of police checks, Northwest Basketball has a mandatory 2 adult policy at all times with athletes, This 2 adult policy is in place to protect athletes, coaches and volunteers. Of these 2 adults one must be of the same gender of the athletes, (ie. Bantam boys team being coached by a female must have a male parent or assistant coach in the gym, bench, etc as the second adult). This includes all games, practices, team meetings and any team related activities, As members it is your responsibility that you volunteer where required to meed this requirement. This is a mandatory policy, we need members to ensure the adults in the gym when dropping off your child, this means you need to walk into the gym to ensure there are 2 adults in the gym or the team is not allowed to practice, or play, etc. With that we insist that you pick up your athlete on time from practices, and games.
Players - Playing "Up"
Under age athletes who wish to participate in an older age group must first notify the Registrar These players could be invited to join the evaluation process for the level in which they would like to play up in. From this evaluation the NorthWest evaluators and the Director of Coaches & Player Development; will determine if a player is physically and mentally ready to play at that level. If they are evaluated as ready to play, they will be placed on an appropriate team. If the evaluators decided that they are not ready to play up, then they will be asked to return to their age appropriate group.
Refund Policy/Out of zone
All withdrawal and refund requests must be made by email to our Registrar
LTP/Tykes:
*The only exceptions would be those that are found to be medically necessary (doctor note required), or receive the approval of the Calgary NorthWest Basketball Executive. Practice nights / times/ and locations (Player Request’s) cannot be confirmed until after evaluations have been completed and teams have been set (usually by the end of the third week of September). We understand that some children are involved in multiple activities and where possible we will try to accommodate, however, conflicts with these other activities do not qualify as an exception and no refunds will be issued due to player requests not being met
Player Request
Please note that we will take player requests however we do not guarantee that we can meet these requests. Please understand that no refunds will be granted based on player requests not being met. Please refer to our "Refund Policy". Uniforms
Each player will be given a uniform that is to be worn at games only, NOT practices. These are to be returned at the end of the season as a complete set (jersey & shorts), washed and in good condition. After April 1, 2023, any players who have not returned their uniforms will be charged $175 to their credit card. Tyke and LTP do not require a uniform return as they are given t-shirts/uniforms to be kept by the athlete.
Volunteers
CNWB is a volunteer run organization and we require that all families be willing to contribute in some capacity throughout the season. If volunteer commitments are not fulfilled for any CNWB families, including those as needed (ie. score keeping), a charge of $200 per player with a maximum charge of $400 per family will be applied to your credit card at the end of the season.
CNWB does offer a No Volunteer option, which if chosen you will be charge $200 per player with a maximum charge of $400 per family that can be chosen at the time of registration. We encourage families to volunteer their time as our programs require this to operate.
Proof of Age
All players who are new to Calgary Minor Basketball as well as all first year minis, must provide a copy of their birth certificate or Alberta Health Care card at the time of registration (CMBA will not register a player unless they have received this proof of age from CNWB.) A player's registration will not be accepted or considered complete until this has been received (even if payment has been made). Please have a copy of this documentation ready to upload when registering on-line. For players who are new to CNWB but have played basketball for another community within CMBA, please inform the registrar of the community last played for so they may retrieve your CMBA ID#.
